Oncology Center (RUCCC)

Oncological Center with the rRcommendation of the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft e. V.)
Statistically speaking, every third European will have cancer throughout his or her life. Depending on the type of cancer and the individual clinical picture, the chances for a cure have improved due to optimized patient care and are much higher than a few years ago. The interdisciplinary collaboration of tumor centers plays a leading role for the treatment’s success. All clinics of the Ruhr University Bochum have therefore merged to an oncological center, the RUCCC (Ruhr-Universität Comprehensive Cancer Center) to ensure the most modern therapy for patients living in the metropolitan area Ruhr. In doing so, the competence from the already existing cancer centers of the Ruhr University Bochum (Intestinal cancer, prostate, skin) is gathered and creates a point of contact for state-of-the-art medicine for all cancerous diseases.

The center’s goal is to treat patients in all phases of the disease in a sophisticated and holistic manner. Interdisciplinary, inter-professional and trans-locational collaboration and therapeutic concepts that are based on internationally accepted guidelines are the foundation of modern cancer therapy. A top priority is transparency and safety to ensure the best possible medical and nursing care. This includes comprehensive psychological and social care. Translational research projects, meaning an efficient way to bring research into treatment application, assure the most modern therapy is available for all patients. The treating doctors participate in central tumor conferences and national and international congresses in order to guarantee each patient the best possible and modern therapy based on the highest standards of quality. A close cooperation with established doctors in the region is meant to provide optimal care for patients close to their home.
