The Cardiology and Internal Emergency Medicine Division of the Medical Clinic at the University Hospital Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum provides the most modern diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with heart and vessel (so-called cardiovascular) diseases.
We offer our patients a personalized and innovative treatment concept. The diagnostic and therapeutic services of the university hospital covers all fields of cardiovascular medicine including specialized treatment for coronary artery disease (minimal invasive catheter procedures to open narrowed blood vessels and prevent or treat heart attack), structural heart diseases (including Transcatheter Heart Valve interventions), heart failure (heart weakness) and heart-rhythm disorders (including Cardiac Device and Resynchronisation Therapy, e.g. pacemaker- or cardioverter defibrillator- implantation).
Our team offers a 24 hour emergency treatment for acute heart attack (myocardial infarction) including not only high end interventional treatment in our catheterization laboratory, but also extracorporeal life support with mechanical assist devices (so-called ECMO-support for circulatory (blood flow) and respiratory (lung) stabilization, Impella heart-support in patients with depressed heart function).
Dr. Patsalis is head of the devision. Due to his expertise in the field of interventional cardiology, Dr. Patsalis is a proctor (trainer) for minimally invasive therapy of structural and valvular heart disease.
