Die Bestimmung des APRI basiert auf den Laborwerten für Aspartat-Aminotransferase (AST), bezogen auf den geschlechtsabhängigen oberen Referenzwert (Ref = 35 falls weiblich, 50 falls männlich), und Thombozyten:
