The medical clinic has more than 141 beds available that are distributed onto four wards where all diseases of the field of inner medicine are treated. In addition to general internistic illnesses, there is an emphasis on the treatment of patients with malignant tumors, hematological diseases and gastrointestinal diseases.
The wards have the following focal points:
- Ward 8 hematology / oncology
- Ward 9 general inner medicine / infections
- Ward 10 gastroenterology / gastrointestinal oncology
- Ward 11 general inner medicine / cardiology / pneumology / endocrinology / palliative care
For critically ill people, there is an intensive care unit with ten beds that are equipped for artificial respiration. Furthermore, a ward specialized on stem cell transplants is part of the clinic where autologous and allogenic stem cell transplantations are performed.
An additional option is the examination of the smaller intestines via a capsule that is swallowed like a pill and takes pictures during the natural passage through the intestines, which can lead to important findings (capsule endoscopy)
Our core concern: communication with the patient.
„The person is at the center of attention“
Even though our clinic uses the most modern technology, it is our main concern to look at the entirety of a patient from a holistic standpoint during tests and therapy. Because of this, we strive toward having close collaboration with the primary physicians and established outpatient specialists, due to it being the requirement for an effective and sustainable therapy.
The medical clinic is a university medical center of the Ruhr University Bochum. Inner medicine as a medical field is represented in lectures, seminars and practical training.
