Intestinal Cancer Center
The treatment of intestinal diseases is one of the focal points for the five hospitals that have merged into the “Darmzentrum Ruhr”.
The five locations are:
- Universitätsklinikum Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum
- Berufsgenossenschaftliches Universitätsklinikum Bergmannsheil, Bochum
- St. Josef Hospital, Klinikum der Ruhr-Universität Bochum
- St.-Josefs-Hospital, Dortmund-Hörde
- Kath. Krankenhausgemeinschaft, Castrop-Rauxel / Dortmund-West
In March 2006, the „Darmzentrum Ruhr“was the first institution of its kind to be nationally certified and to be called the „Darmzentrum mit Empfehlung der Deutschen Krebsgesellschaft e. V. “ (center with recommendation of the German Cancer Society). Due to this, patients can rely on the fact that the treatment is based on standardized guidelines guaranteed by the medical scientific expert associations and that the medical care is state-of-the-art.
The task of the “Darmzentrum Ruhr” is the care and treatment of malignant cancerous diseases. This is performed by structured team play of all professions – internists, surgeons, oncologists, radiation therapists, pathologists, psycho-oncologists, stoma therapists and other technical staff. The individual procedure for every patient is discussed at the weekly so-called “tumor conference”. Treatment guidelines, which are created collaboratively by the medical expert associations and the German Cancer Society, are of high importance. These guidelines are continuously adapted to current insights and findings in science and research and quality criteria documented and reviewed.
