Trans-Regional Trauma Center

Accidents happen easily. The consequence: trauma, meaning a severe injury. Nationwide, about 4 million people are affected each year. Due to the professional integration of different disciplines such as trauma surgery, neurosurgery, jaw surgery, ophthalmology, visceral surgery and anesthesiology, the university medical center Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum has been able to provide patients around the clock, optimal medical care for years, based on standardized quality criteria for the severely injured. Successfully so, because the Knappschaftskrankenhaus has been certified multiple times in a row as trans-regional trauma center by the trauma network Ruhr region (Traumanetzwerk Ruhrgebiet).

The Ruhr region trauma network – the biggest in Germany – is made up of four trans-regional, six regional and 20 local trauma centers from Duisburg to Dortmund. The network’s goal is to preserve and improve the quality of the care for the severely injured through optimized communication, coordinated standards and cooperation. This includes the increased efficiency through the usage of existing resources. In addition, the joint network creates a combined system for education and advanced training. Long story short: in the future the patient’s care will be even faster, more effective and even better.
