Operative and Medical-Neurological Intensive Care Units
At the university medical center Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum, patients with severe or life-threatening injuries are treated on the intensive care unit. The medical-neurological intensive care unit has ten beds. On the interdisciplinary intensive care unit that holds twenty beds, almost 50 nurses take care of the patients around the clock. Half of the nurses have done the advanced training for anesthesiology and intensive care. For optimal care, the one to two bed rooms have modern technical equipment (ventilation machines, hemofiltration, EEG, ECMO, cardiac output measurement) as well as the options for movement therapy in collaboration with the physical therapists of the hospital. Relatives can arrange individual visiting hours and have a conversation at the conference room set up for this purpose. There is also a room for relatives to bid farewell to their dying loved ones.
